Girls and women in vulnerable situations

Some key figures

Less than 20%

Less than 20% of girls worldwide engage in regular physical activity. In some developing countries, this figure is even lower due to cultural and economic barriers.

Approx. 49%.

At puberty, around 49% of girls worldwide give up sport.

Sport as a powerful lever for emancipation

Sport is recognized by the United Nations as a powerful lever for women’s emancipation. When accessible to all, sport can transform the lives of girls and women, equipping them with the tools to achieve personal, social and economic fulfillment.

Awareness and training programs :

The Foundation supports projects that focus on education through sport, including the empowerment of girls and women through leadership programs, personal development and confidence-building initiatives.

Reduction of cultural and economic barriers :

Whether cultural, religious, economic or even security-related, there are many barriers limiting women’s access to sport. We work with local NGOs to address these issues, depending on the local context of the project.

Promoting equality between men and women :

The Decathlon Foundation places inclusion and equal opportunities at the heart of its actions. By creating safe and supportive sporting environments for girls, it contributes not only to their empowerment but also to the fight against sexist stereotypes.

Supporting girls and women through sport is essential for their personal development, health and autonomy. It also contributes to the creation of more inclusive and equitable societies.
